Standing out against the backdrop of the nearby Alps and surrounded by ancient parkland, the Grand Hotels ‘Quellenhof’ and ‘Hof Ragaz’ offer what is probably one of the most beautiful and best-placed health, spa and golf resorts worldwide. It was 1868 when the respected architect, Bernhard Simon (1816 –1900) purchased the land from the Canton of St. Gallen and undertook to build “a splendid guesthouse set in a complex of gardens and parks”. In July of the following year, the Grand Hotel ‘Quellenhof’ was opened, offering generations of discerning guests an oasis of peace and quiet, relaxation and recuperation. A good 125 years later, in 1995, the ‘Quellenhof’ was completely demolished and rebuilt as an exact replica of the original structure, using the carefully restored furnishings. The Palais belonging to the ‘Hof Ragaz’, built in the eighteenth century and dating back to the time when the governors of the time-honoured Pfäfers Monastery still resided here, is a wonderful example of historic hotel culture. Nowadays, international visitors can choose between five or four-star comfort from a selection of no less than 106 suites at the Grand Hotel ‘Quellenhof’, or 131 rooms and suites at the Grand Hotel ‘Hof Ragaz’.
